About the original book.

Written in 1880 by the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad wanted to promote America’s newest pastime “the summer vacation.” The idea to visit “some place, near or remote, the variety of objects, novel and beautiful, pleases the vision, instructs and gratifies the mind. The wearied masses, worn by cares of many kinds, drop everything of anxiety, and gathering about them their companions, associates, or intimates, set off intent upon rest and pleasure.”

The original book included Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. As we are a New York company, we have restored the New York views as you see them here.

Included in this book are the Adirondack Mountains, Au Sable, the Thousand Islands, Lake George, Niagara Falls, and Watkins Glen. The artist or artists were not given credit for these wonderful drawings of New York’s natural wonders. Restored and reprinted by New York History Review.

Have a wonderful summer vacation.
